RESULTS WEEK 1 - 2010

The first true race of the season gave us great sunny weather, little to no wind and a great rider turnout which enabled all 3 Divisions to be run for the first time in awhile.

Division 1 - 57klm's

A quality field of around 20 riders including Hamish's bunch from the tablelands hit the starting line for the first Division 1 race of the season . As expected the speed was high but no one able to open a break.

The cane tracks caused some carnage with Ross March and Neil Luckett taking a tumble. Surprisingly Jon Hobson stayed upright but elected to withdraw from the race in sympathy.

The group stayed together until half way back when young Australian Time Trial Champ Dave Edwards attacked and opened up a sizable gap. After a lap of the Greenhill circuit Hamish Guy and Gavin Taylor also lept from the bunch. These guys managed to hold of the closing peleton to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd with Tim Jackson taking the bunch sprint from Brendon Skerke.

Division 2 - 50 klm's

Also had good numbers with around 15 riders making up the division 2 field. It was great to see some new faces joining the bunch for the first time..

The bunch worked tirelessly over the 50 kilometre course with no incidents and most of the field happy to do their share at the pointy end. There was a couple of attempts made by individuals to sneak off the front, including young Costello but the peleton were having none of that and were quick to pull them back in.

The bunch inevitably ended up in a bunch sprint with Malcolm Lindsey too strong for fast finishing Ken Dyson and Julian Oates.

Division 3 - 42 klm's

A small field, some for their first time hit the Yarrabah track on their 40 kilometre journey and but unlike the Div 1 & 2's there was no where to hide for these guys and girls with each expected to do their fair share towing the train.  The group kept the pace high and resembled more of a team time trial with Anne Ryan proving too strong for Pete Sexton and Simon Schembri.
